5 Artists We’re Excited to See at Electric Forest 2022
After two years away due to the pandemic, Electric Forest is finally ready to make its return this weekend (June 23-26) in Rothbury, Mich.
This year’s lineup is eclectic, as fans have come to expect from Electric Forest in its decade-plus existence. There’s a strong contingent of EDM artists and jam bands, along with alt-rock, pop and even some R&B acts thrown into the mix.
The headliners are all big names. Odds are you’re already familiar with Disclosure, Porter Robinson, Louis the Child, Sylvan Esso and Griz. But what about the artists further down the bill? Here are 5 acts we’re excited to see at Electric Forest 2022.
Blu DeTiger
A DJ-turned badass bassist, Blu DeTiger has made a name for herself as a must-see female de force. At 24 years old, she’s already collaborated with some of the coolest names in music, including Jack Antonoff, Caroline Polachek and the Knocks. Did you see Bleachers’ performance on Saturday Night Live back in January? If so, your eyes probably gravitated towards DeTiger. While her stage presence is obvious, the budding star has the musical chops to back it up. DeTiger enjoyed widespread attention during the pandemic as her at-home covers of famous rock and pop songs went viral on Instagram and TikTok. With an EP released in 2021 and a constant stream of new material coming out, she’s now poised to blow up in the real world.
Cautious Clay
Joshua Karpeh a.k.a Cautious Clay is one of those guys who seems like he can do just about anything. He got his degree in International Affairs from the George Washington University and was a real estate agent in New York before pursuing a career in music. While we’re sure he could sell a mean house, the world is better off thanks to his career change. A true genre-bender, Cautious Clay mixes hip-hop, R&B, electronic and a little bit of rock to create his unique sound. He’s already collaborated with John Mayer and John Legend, and been sampled by Taylor Swift. As the credits keep racking up, Cautious Clay’s star continues to rise.
Toro y Moi
There’s a pretty good chance you’ve seen Toro y Moi at a festival in the past. After all, the guy’s been making amazing music for over a decade and helped lead the chillwave trend in the early 2010s. Still, he’s on our list for two reasons: A) He remains a criminally underrated artist and B) He’s so damn good! Few musicians can go from electronic, to R&B, to soul, to drum-and-bass, to funk, all without missing a beat. His live shows – which feature a full backing band – feel like you’re partying on another planet. Definitely a must-see act for anyone attending this year’s Electric Forest.
Michigander
If you’re looking to squeeze a little rock in between your dance sets, be sure to check out Michigander. The band is the project of Jason Singer, a dynamic singer-songwriter who clearly knows how to write catchy tunes. The first Michigander EP, Midland, came out in 2018 and they’ve been touring endlessly ever since… Well, at least when the world isn’t shut down. If you like the heartfelt heartland indie rock of the National and the War on Drugs, Michigander will be right up your alley.
The Knocks
You know that saying, “You’re only as good as the company you keep?” Well, here are some of the people the Knocks have worked with. Wycleff Jean, Carly Rae Jepsen, Method Man, Foster the People, X Ambassadors, Sofi Tukker, Walk the Moon and Rivers Cuomo of Weezer. That’s an impressive and eclectic list! Listening to the Knocks material, it’s easy to understand why so many artists want to work with them. The electronic duo – made up of Ben “B-Roc” Ruttner and James “JPatt” Patterson – have knack for creating engrossing beats, blending a wide range of styles into their dance floor-ready anthems.
