Just one month after announcing the second annual Ohana Encore weekend, the festival has been canceled.
According to Spin, the event, co-founded by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, was given the ax due to what the promoters are calling “circumstances beyond our control.” Ticket holders were reportedly informed of the cancellation via email, with refunds expected to be issued within 7 to 10 days.
While there has been no public statement from the Ohana organizers themselves, information about the Encore weekend — including lineup and ticketing information — has been scrubbed from the official website and social media pages. That said, you can, apparently, still rent a locker for Encore, which is… odd.
The cancellation comes as a surprise given the star power connected to the event. Vedder was among those scheduled to perform at the Encore weekend, along with The Black Keys, Alanis Morissette, The Roots, Haim, Band of Horses and more.
Encore is an offshoot of the Ohana Festival, which Vedder co-founded in 2016 in a partnership with Live Nation and Pearl Jam manager Mark Smith. It is held annually at Southern California’s Doheny State Beach.
Despite the cancellation of the Encore weekend, this year’s Ohana fest remains on track to be held as scheduled. The event, which takes place Sept. 24-26 features a lineup that includes Stevie Nicks, Jack White, Pink, St. Vincent, Brittany Howard, Gang of Youths, Grouplove, Manchester Orchestra and Broken Social Scene.
